About Me

I'm Aanya Harshavat, a high school junior with a passion for psychology and a commitment to making a positive impact in my community through storytelling, research, and service.

At 16, I published my first children’s book, Annie and Froggy - Make a Friend, which I’ve had the privilege of reading to elementary school students across my district to introduce social-emotional learning and psychological concepts in an engaging, age-appropriate way.

My interest in psychology extends beyond writing. I have gained hands-on research experience as an intern with the Personality Across Development (PAD) Lab at Northwestern University, where I explored topics related to youth stress, parenting, and mental health. I also founded my school’s psychology club to create opportunities for students to learn about mental health, neuroscience, and human behavior.

Outside of academics, I am dedicated to serving my community through volunteer work and youth leadership. As a Junior Board Member of the Palatine Park Foundation, I help support initiatives that strengthen community engagement and expand opportunities for local residents. I have also founded a free tutoring service specifically helping immigrant families and underrepresented children, reflecting my commitment to creating inclusive spaces where every child can thrive.

I believe that young people have the power to inspire others and create meaningful change—and I'm committed to being part of that change through writing, education, research, and community service.

Annie and Froggy - Make a Friend

Annie and Froggy - Make a Friend

A heartwarming story about emotions - this book gently guides young readers to understand and embrace all their feelings—big or small—while discovering that it’s okay to feel scared, sad, or worried.

Annie is seven years old, and Froggy - her beloved frog companion - is her very best friend. As Annie starts second grade in a new city and a new school, she faces big feelings like fear and worry. With Froggy by her side, Annie learns how to calm herself, find her courage, and understand that all emotions - even the scary ones - are okay. This gentle, reassuring story helps young readers discover that there are no "bad" emotions - only feelings that deserve care and understanding.

Helping children learn about emotions through storytelling.
